I qualified from UCD with honours in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I trained in major centres in Ireland and the UK and undertook research in obstetric ultrasound under the guidance of Dr. Bernard Stuart who pioneered Doppler ultrasound for the detection of the at risk fetus. Following the discovery of the BRCA gene I undertook a PhD at Cambridge looking at the genetic basis of ovarian cancer. This led me to subspecialize in gynaecologic oncology ie The treatment and management of cancer in women.
I am widely published in all areas of obstetrics and gynaecology from pregnancy, labour ward, obstetric ultrasound to cancer.
I have always wanted to be the best and to deliver a world class service. After returning to University Hospital Waterford I set up guidelines for the management of women admitted to the service. I established the early pregnancy assessment unit and medical management of miscarriage long before they were rolled out nationally.
I lobbied for the development of the stillbirth service and introduced prophylactic anti-D for the prevention of rhesus disease, again long before this became national policy. I set up the colposcopy service, women’s cancer service and minimally access surgery services.
I am actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training and I’m currently directing a fellowship in advanced pelvic surgery.
Women who attend me can be assured that they will receive a comprehensive world class service. My aim is to deliver a healthy baby to a healthy mother. I have the skills and ability to diagnose and deal with any complication you may develop in either your pregnancy or your health. I will always give you an open and honest expert opinion. I go through all the options with you so you can make decisions about your care and what is best for you.
