3D/4D and Scans

3D/4D Baby Scan

This scan can be performed from 16 weeks to 34 weeks, yet for best results we advise booking between 28 and 34 weeks.
Having a 3D ultrasound scan is a very similar process to having a normal 2D ultrasound. The technology used to produce a 3D scan differs from 2D as during a 3D scan,
thousands of still images of your baby are taken at once through sound waves. They are then translated by medical software into 3-dimensional images which are almost
as clear as a real-life photograph. With the 3D baby scans, both the transducer used to transmit the sound waves and the medical software is more advanced and complex.
This is why 3D baby scans are more expensive and generally not included in standard maternity hospital practices. 4D baby scans use the same technique but the medical
imaging software has the ability to blend thousands of 3D images to create a video of your child from within the womb, you may see your child smiling, waving or
sucking on their thumb.

2D/Ultrasound

A fetal ultrasound (sonogram) is an imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce images of a fetus in the uterus.
Fetal ultrasound images can help your health care provider evaluate your baby’s growth and development and monitor your pregnancy.

This scan also includes measuring the blood flow to the baby’s umbilical cord, and also includes assessing the amount of amniotic fluid,
measuring fetal growth, determining the position of the placenta and estimating the fetal weight. It is advisable to have a full bladder to
ensure the ultrasound image is clearer.
